Navot Miller I paint the people I miss

Many of my titles name people and places. Together, they form a map of friendship, travel and memory.

Privacy

This site has no accounts, no forms and no cookies. It shows paintings, and it keeps the little it needs to know that anyone is looking.

Who is responsible

Navot Miller, Auguststraße 10, 10117 Berlin, navotmiller@gmail.com. Write to that address for anything on this page.

Hosting

The pages are served by Vercel Inc., 340 S Lemon Ave #4133, Walnut, CA 91789, USA. Like any web host, its servers record each request, including the IP address it came from, the page asked for, the time and the browser's user agent. That happens so the site can be delivered and kept safe from abuse, on the legitimate interest basis of Article 6(1)(f) GDPR. Vercel is a United States company, so requests may be handled outside the European Union.

Visitor statistics

The site uses Vercel Web Analytics, which sets no cookies and builds no profile. It counts page views and a handful of actions: opening a painting, walking to the next one, enlarging an image, copying a link to share, switching a year, and following the Instagram link. The counts are aggregated, so a single visit cannot be traced back to a person. If a link carries a ref parameter, that word is counted alongside the action, which is how the artist can tell that a link he sent himself was opened.

Legitimate interest again, under Article 6(1)(f) GDPR: knowing whether the paintings are being looked at, without following anyone around the web.

The map

The map draws its tiles from OpenFreeMap (tiles.openfreemap.org), so when the map loads, the browser asks that service for image tiles and its IP address reaches it. Nothing else about the visit is sent there, and no other outside service is contacted while browsing: the fonts, the images and the map software are all served from this site.

What the browser stores

No cookies are set. One entry, nm_ref, is written to the browser's session storage, and only when the link followed to arrive here carried a ref parameter. It disappears when the tab is closed, and it can be removed at any time by clearing site data in the browser.

Links that leave the site

Each painting credits the gallery, magazine or Instagram post its image came from, and those links open on the other site, which has its own privacy notice. Following one is a choice, and nothing about the visit here travels with it beyond the usual referrer that browsers send.

Your rights

Under the GDPR anyone may ask what personal data is held about them, have it corrected or erased, ask for its processing to be restricted, object to it, or receive it in a portable form. Because this site keeps no account and no contact form, there is usually nothing held beyond the host's short-lived request logs and the aggregated counts described above. Requests go to navotmiller@gmail.com, and a complaint can be made to a data protection supervisory authority, in Berlin the Berliner Beauftragte für Datenschutz und Informationsfreiheit.
